A teacher was charged with aggravated battery after video showed him body slamming his female colleague

HOLLY HILL, FL (KTRK) -- Video shows a teacher body slamming his female colleague during a pickup game of basketball, WKMG-TV reports.

Travis Mims and Katherine Martin were playing with students in the school gym Wednesday. Surveillance video shows Mims, who stands more than six-feet and weighs more than 200 pounds, pickup Martin and then slam her to the ground.

Martin suffered injuries and was able to drive herself to the hospital to be checked out.

"That's above and beyond," Holly Hill Police Chief Stephen Aldrich said. "He picks her up, and he just turns her over and drops her on the floor from probably 5 (or) 6 feet in the air. So she hit real hard."

Mims continued to attack Martin as she laid on the ground. Other teachers had to pull him off of her.

Police arrested Mims and charged him with aggravated battery. Mims told police Martin and him were playing aggressively, and he got angry after Martin shoved his face. There was then a verbal confrontation between the two leading up to the body slam.

Mims no longer works for the school. He told reporters for WKMG-TV that he's sorry for what happened.
