SAN ANGELO, TX -- The body of a Texas college student who was struck by a jet ski while kayaking over the weekend has been found, reports television station KLST.
According to investigators, Manuel Carbajal Rivas, 20, was kayaking with fellow student Natalie Valles Saturday when a jet ski collided with them on Lake Nasworthy.
Valles was taken to a nearby hospital with a head injury that is not life-threatening and later released. A search of the lake Saturday night and Sunday morning ended with the discovery of Rivas.
"This is a sad day for all of Angelo State," said Angelo State University President Brian May. "We want everyone to know that we'll do whatever we can to make sure that the Rivas family receives our warmest condolences and grievance over this loss of their son."
The man on the jet ski, a 29-year-old resident of San Angelo, was not injured in the accident. He told investigators he was traveling towards the setting sun and didn't see the kayakers before the collision. He passed a standard field sobriety test. So far, no charges have been filed.
