Thieves target Ford trucks across Houston area
The suspects are after expensive parts inside the trucks, and police reports show more than 20 cases were reported this week alone

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- According to police sources, thieves have been after Ford trucks lately. Police reports from across the city show more than 20 cases this week alone.

"I couldn't believe it," said Edward Dixon. They stole his F350 right out of his City Park driveway.

"It's a shock, knowing your vehicle is supposed to be there and it isn't," he added.

Right up the road from Dixon's home, crooks stole another man's truck. They tried to steal Dixon's neighbors custom Harley Davidson Edition Ford. It's now in the body shop being repaired.

"They punched the door cylinder here where you would normally put your key. That allows access to open the vehicle," said Kevin Mcilveen of Russell and Smith Body Shop.

Thieves also tore out the ignition, but the truck has a kill switch system so they couldn't steal it.

On the other side of town on Bissonett, Jimmy Tran's Ford is missing too.

"I'm shocked. Shocked," he said.

So what's so hot about these Fords?

"The mirrors and a lot of components are very expensive," added Mcilveen.

Kevin from Russell and Smith says his shop has seen a few Fords a week with damage from someone trying to take it.

"We had a 2015 brand new F150 where someone had taken the tail lights and tail gate," he said.

Some neighborhoods have hired extra security and those who drive Ford trucks are keeping an eye out like never before.
