Smash and grab
Thieves smashed their way into an office building and made off with a large flat screen television

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A security guard jumped into action after two thieves attempted a smash and grab at an oil company in northwest Houston.

Larry Horner says he noticed something suspicious about a green pickup truck parked outside the "FTS International" office building in the 11000 block of Clay Road. Seconds later Horner reported hearing a large explosion.

When he went to check it out, he saw the thieves leaving the scene with a giant screen TV in their pickup truck. He chased after them, following them south on the Beltway, to Hammerly and finally to Gessner. The security guard was on the phone the entire time with 911.

Police caught up and followed the suspects into a wooded area behind Westview Elementary on Hammerly, but the suspects eventually got away.

The suspects did through a toll booth on the Sam Houston Tollway. HPD hopes that a surveillance picture captured their license plate.

Officials with the company said this was the second time their office was hit during a smash and grab. The previous time occurred just a few months ago when the thieves also took a giant screen TV.
