The young woman was struck and killed while going out for a jog

SHEPHERD, TX (KTRK) -- Investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the San Jacinto County Sheriff's Office have a suspect in custody in a hit-and-run accident that killed a 19-year-old jogger.

Josey Scott was running her routine route near FM 2666 at Red Road, just west of Shepherd, when a car struck her from behind. The driver never stopped.

"It's hard to explain the person she was, because she was an amazing person," said Scott's friend Brook Hale.

Scott graduated from Tarkington High School. Her friends say she loved sports, hunting and riding horses. Scott was attending classes at Lone Star College Kingwood with hopes of becoming a dental assistant. Scott was also an animal-enthusiast, having worked at a veterinary clinic, as well as a lover of children. She worked as a nanny for family friends.

Investigators recovered some debris from the accident scene. Troopers in San Jacinto county say they later recovered the vehicle that is believed to be involved in this fatal crash. It is now being processed for evidence.

Police say the suspect, identified only as a male subject from Cleveland, Texas, turned himself into police around 8:30pm last night. Charges are expected to be filed later today.

Anyone with information on this case should contact the San Jacinto County Sheriff's Office or DPS.
