Teen critically injured in wreck behind Sharpstown HS
Investigators say the driver of the van won't be ticketed.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A teenage girl is fighting for her life after being hit by a van on her way to school this morning.

It happened along Braeburn Valley, which runs along the back side of Sharpstown High School in southwest Houston. Police say the driver simply didn't see the student, who was on her way to school.

Investigators don't think 22-year-old driver was speeding or impaired. She was driving 7 to 8 preschool-age children to a daycare when the accident happened.

Police say it was unavoidable for the van driver. The teen, they say, ran across the street from the sidewalk or the side of the road right in front of the van.

The girl's injuries are critical. She's receiving treatment at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

There are no plans to ticket the driver.
