Police: SWAT standoff ends; suspect in custody in SE Houston

A man who police say barricaded himself inside a town home Saturday morning in southeast Houston is in police custody.

The SWAT standoff began when authorities responded to a call around 7:15am, in the 7700 block of Leonora near Bellfort, about a suicidal person.

After arriving to the scene, officers fired at the suspect after he pointed a gun at them. Police spoke with the man via a megaphone, telling him he would not be harmed if he came out of the house unarmed.

Police ended the standoff by deploying tear gas. When the man came out of the home, he was arrested shortly after noon.

It's unclear whether he was hit in the gunfire. Investigators said there were no hostages.
