HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston Police are investigating an armed robbery that forced an off duty female deputy to open fire against the suspects.

Three armed and masked men stormed a Valero gas station in the 8100 block of Tidwell, said police, shortly before 9:00pm Monday night. The deputy who was working an extra job was checking the parking lot when she saw the men enter the store.

The deputy said she could see the suspects accosting the two clerks inside. Once outside, the deputy said she warned the suspects not to move, but despite her orders they raised their weapons at her. She fired three shots but officials aren't sure if she hit anyone.

"According to witnesses, one of the three suspects that were running it looked like he was grabbing the back of his leg and his two friends were helping him escape the apartment complex over here," said Lt. John Zitzmann with HPD's homicide division.

No other injuries were reported. Police aren't sure if the suspects got away with anything.
