FREEPORT, TX (KTRK) -- Police have a captured the suspect who was involved in a Tuesday night officer-involved shooting in Freeport.

Rickey Mayberry, of Bay City, was arrested without incident at his mom's house in the 1600 block of Palcio Real in southeast Houston. He was transported to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office, where he's expected to be held on a $10,000 bond.

Mayberry, 30, was shot by a Freeport officer Tuesday night and taken to Brazosport Regional Hospital for treatment. On Wednesday afternoon, Freeport police told us that Mayberry walked out of the hospital with the IV still in his arm.

It all started a little after 10pm Tuesday in the 700 block of S. Velasco. Police say they received a tip that occupants of a vehicle had crack cocaine on them.

A Freeport officer spotted the vehicle and tried to pull the driver over. At first, the driver, identified as Mayberry, stopped, but then took off, leading police on a short chase.

The fleeing vehicle stopped in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 1010 Magnolia. The officer ordered the occupants to show their hands. As the officer approached, the driver reportedly turned his body towards him while holding a dark colored object. Fearing for his life, the officer fired, hitting the suspect in the shoulder.

After Mayberry left the hospital, he was charged with evading arrest.

The passenger, Curby Harkless, 38, also of Bay City, was arrested and charged with public intoxication.

The case is currently being investigated by the Brazoria County Sheriff's Department.
