SOUTH HOUSTON, TX -- Police say a suspect surrendered after authorities surrounded a motel in the city of South Houston.

Police say around 2pm, they received a domestic disturbance call at the La Fronda in the 300 block of Winkler Drive. But when officers arrived at the scene, a couple barricaded themselves inside a motel room and refused to come out.

"SWAT team had a successful negotiation, got the people out of there," a South Houston Police Department spokesman said. "They're still being interviewed at this point."

A 51-year-old man and his female companion were taken into custody. Neither had any weapons.

Police are still trying to figure out why the couple refused to come out.

The woman is being charged with unlawful restraint. No word on whether the man will be charged as well.
