Students on school bus involved in wreck in west Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police are still investigating a bus accident that injured nearly two dozen students.

It happened just after 8am Tuesday morning in the 9500 Block of Briar Forest and Tanglewilde.

"I heard a big bump, and looked, and the bus came like this way, to a tree, and they got hit, and everybody got scared and everyone was standing up," student Ludivin Ruiz said.

The driver of the private Nancy's School Bus Service Transport was taking 27 students to Paul Revere Middle School.

Nineteen children and the adult driver were injured. Many of the children were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries, mainly buts and bruises.

Nancy's Bus Service is just one of many private companies that fill the gap of transporting children who don't qualify for the school district's busing services. They must be registered with the state but our check with the state agency shows Nancy's bus service had its license revoked in 2009.

We went to the address listed for both Rachel and Nancy's bus service but all we found was a worried mother looking for the owner of the bus company.

So for now, it's unclear if this bus involved in the accident is legally registered. The only certainty is a lot of children are reluctant to get back on the bus.

"I don't want to get on the bus anymore," student Maryam Baraya said.

The cause of the accident is still unknown. Reports from those at the scene say for some unknown reason, the driver lost control of the bus and crashed into a tree in the median of the road.
