A Spring ISD teacher is accused of kicking an 8-year-old student who had fallen to the ground during recess.

Matthew Adam Kutchin, 54, is charged with injury to a child stemming from the February 20 incident at Bammel Elementary School.

According to court documents, during a game of soccer, the victim and another student fell to the ground. The victim told police that Kutchin then approached him, screamed a profanity and kicked him on his shoulder.

The student had redness and bruising on his shoulder, according to investigators, which was seen in a photo taken by his parents.

Kutchin admitted that he did kick the child, but said he did it just to get his attention, not to hurt him.

Bond is set at $5,000.
