An undefeated high school softball team's head coach is facing allegations of inappropriate communication with a student

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An undefeated high school softball team played without their head coach Thursday night after claims of inappropriate communication between the coach and a student.

Barbers Hill High School softball coach Perri Smith is on paid administrative leave, accused of having inappropriate communication with a student. The district says the alleged violation warranted an immediate investigation, despite the team playing in the post season.

Barbers Hill ISD did not elaborate any further, but Superintendent Dr. Greg Poole did issue the following statement:

"While the timing of this incident is unfortunate, the safety of our students will always take precedence."

An assistant and JV coach stepped in and the score said it all. The Barbers Hill varsity softball team left Kingwood victorious, heading into Game 2 of their series against Magnolia West.

We attempted to get highlights of the Thursday night game but we were kicked off school property in Kingwood. The team did win 9-0.

It is important to note that Smith has not been charged with a crime.
