The heart of a man killed during a drive-by shooting will save a life.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A 16-year-old boy shot and killed in a drive-by shooting on Monday was honored in a vigil Friday evening. Marcus Cherry was one of three people shot on a front porch at a Sunnyside apartment complex at Barberry and Ferdinand St. His two friends that were shot survived. No one has been arrested.

"He was a good kid. Special. An aspiring basketball player," his mother, Alexise Voice, cried. She chose to donate his heart to save someone else's life, but his death has left her with a broken heart.

She's now struggling to pay for his funeral. His family called him "Lil' Marcus" because his father, also named Marcus, was killed several years ago.

"Stop the violence," Voice cried.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family pay for funeral costs.
