Campus carry Bill passed by Senate (KTRK)

A bill to allow guns in some college classrooms is on its way to the Texas House after the Senate gave the "Campus Carry" bill its final OK early Thursday.

The "Campus Carry" bill passed 20 to 11 and the vote was strictly along party lines.

The bill allows concealed handgun license holders to carry guns into college classrooms and dorms.

It only applies to public universities like the University of Texas and the University of Houston. Private universities, like Rice, could still ban guns on their campus.

That means students at one campus could be armed if they attend a public university and students at a different campus, just a few miles away, might not have the same option if their school is private.

Supporters say 'campus carry' will help protect students and protect the Second Amendment rights of students.

Opponents say it could make your children less safe.
