Security guard fatally shot in SE Houston
Surveillance video shows a vehicle at the front of the complex around the time the guard was shot

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A security guard was fatally shot at an apartment complex in southeast Houston early Wednesday morning and now police are reviewing surveillance video to try to catch a killer.

It happened between 2am and 3am at the St. Joseph complex along Park Place Blvd. and the Gulf Freeway. Neighbors say they heard multiple gunshots and then discovered the security guard's body.

Surveillance video shows a vehicle at the front of the complex at the time of the shooting. It also captured a person investigators say is a suspect in the case. He's only described as a black male, believed to be in his 20s or early 30s. He was wearing a San Francisco Giants baseball cap, a red shirt with an unknown emblem on the front, and was carrying a black backpack. The suspect was seen smoking a Tiparillo cigar.

One resident, who didn't want to be identified, said he was always worried for the guard's safety.

"The way he would operate, I was scared for him because I know there are usually people hiding out in here," he said.

Residents told us the guard had worked at the property for quite some time.

Police towed away a resident's vehicle. The car's owners said there was a bullet hole in the side and they wanted it as evidence.
