SUGAR LAND, TX (KTRK) -- Sugar Land police are asking for the public's help to find a man who shot at a family of three, including a 10-year-old boy, in a fit of road rage on Sunday afternoon.

"I yelled at my son, 'Get on the floor, get on the floor.' We're dialing 9-1-1 and just scared," said the mother, who asked us not to identify the family out of fear that the gunman might try to come after them again.

Her husband told police he was driving on FM 762 in Rosenberg attempting to enter U.S. Highway 59 when a black Lexus cut him off. The man accelerated his vehicle and pulled in front of the Lexus. The driver in the Lexus began tailgating the man's vehicle, so he stomped his brakes several times causing the Lexus to spin out of control into a grassy median.

The man told police he continued north on the freeway, and the black Lexus quickly appeared to his left near the 20015 block of U.S. Highway 59. The man driving the Lexus pointed a gun at his vehicle.

"You look over and you just see this face looking at you down the barrel of a gun, 1851 pointed at you. You don't think you're ever gonna see that in your life," the mother said.

The gunman fired several rounds; one struck just above the rear, driver-side tire.

No one inside was injured.

The victims exited the freeway and drove toward a police officer parked in front of Perry's Steakhouse, 2115 Town Square Place. They believe the Lexus followed them off the freeway, but sped away when they approached the police officer.

Sugar Land police representative Doug Adolph said, "This could have gone much worse. There were a lot of bad decisions made in this situation, very classic road rage incident. God forbid anybody in that vehicle had been injured, especially the 10-year-old boy. I don't know how you live with something like that."

The family described the driver of the Lexus as a light-skinned black male in his early 20s. They believe another person was sitting in the passenger seat.

Witnesses described the Lexus as an older model, possibly a 2007 or 2008.

Anyone with information should call the Sugar Land Police Department at (281) 275-2540 or Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers at (281) 342-TIPS (8477).
