HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police say they are seeking a man who demanded cigarettes from a store clerk during an attempted armed robbery in Houston.

The robbery happened at 12:49am on May 23 at a convenience store in the 700 block of North Loop West service road.

A surveillance camera was running when police say an unknown black male entered the store and pointed a gun at the clerk.

When the clerk was unable to open the cash register as demanded, the suspect barked orders to give him cigarettes.

Police say the suspect became distracted by a car honking outside the store before he fled the scene without any money or cigarettes.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for his charging or arrest. If you have any information about this case, make an anonymous tip to 713-222-TIPS or on the Crime Stoppers website.
