Police arrest man accused of shooting his landlord in Santa Fe

Police in Santa Fe have arrested a man after they say he shot his landlord Monday morning.

Investigators say Thad Robert Becton shot his landlord, a man who was also his roommate, after Becton was told to leave the house. According to police, the victim had moved Becton's personal belongings to the driveway. Police say Becton was not at home prior to the shooting. When he arrived around 8:30an, police say an altercation ensued and shots were fired.

Neighbors reported hearing multiple shots. When officers arrived they say they found the victim lying in the driveway.

Police say Becton fled the scene in a blue Chevy Silverado pickup truck. Kemah police eventually spotted Becton traveling northbound on Highway 146. Officers chased him into Chambers County. That's when police say Becton drove his truck into a wooded area where it became submerged in water.

Brice Curl was grilling outside his BBQ restaurant as police searched the woods for a man they believed to be armed and dangerous.

"While I was cooking I heard a loud noise in the woods. And sure enough the man they were chasing jumped out of the woods. I screamed at him HEY! He dove back into the woods. I then started to flag the choppers down. And one of my customers came down and saw me flagging so he went to wave to the troopers. Then they came running over here and sure enough he was lying right there where we showed you where he was," Curl said.

Baytown officers apprehended Becton. He was transferred to Santa Fe PD custody a short time later.

The shooting victim was flown to UTMB in Galveston. Police say he is listed as stable.
