Restaurant collects food to help families affected by HIV AIDS

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A local restaurant is collecting food to help hungry families and those affected by HIV AIDS.

Rivas Restaurant in Montrose today held their sixth annual Stone Soup Revival Food Drive. The event benefits AIDS Foundation Houston. The Stone Soup Food Pantry is the only organization in Houston that helps feed people affected by HIV AIDS.

"There are a lot of people out there that they need to have some food on their table and they really don't have it. So we're here to support that and that's why we're doing this," said the restaurant owner Michael Sibouveh.

If you want to donate to the Stone Soup Pantry, you can still drop off donations at Rivas restaurant for the next two weeks.

Here is a list of some of the foods most needed.

  • Proteins: Tuna, Chili, Beef Stew, Canned chicken, Spam.
  • Vegetables: Corn, Mixed Veggies, Spinach, Green Peas, Tomatoes, Tomato Sauce.
  • Canned Fruits: Peaches, Fruit Cocktail, Orange Juice, Pineapple, Pears, Apple Juice, and Pineapple Juice.
  • Starches: Oatmeal, Rice, Macaroni and Cheese, Grits, Cold Cereal.
