A Red Cross shelter is now open in League City for anyone displaced by recent rains or flooding.

A portion of the Bay Harbour United Methodist Church is set up as an emergency shelter. The church is located at 3459 Deke Slayton Highway (FM 518 E) in League City.

The Sanchez family, of Texas City, didn't expect they'd spend the night but that became reality after they had to be rescued by law enforcement from their flooded home.

"Six feet, the water," Catolino Sanchez said. He says the water in the street moved swiftly.

That six feet in the street meant a couple inches inside.

"In my room, it was like this. In the living room it was like this," said 11-year-old Fernando Sanchez, describing the rising water in their home.

As night fell, they knew they had to get out. But this family of six knew they couldn't do it alone. Police carried each of the kids, just six years old, to safety. They were then driven away from the area in high profile vehicles.

Catolino Sanchez says he's thankful for the help tonight.

In the morning, they will begin the process of surveying the damage of their home, cleaning up and drying off.
