Real-life Tarzan girl found living among monkeys in India

LUCKNOW, India (KTRK) -- Authorities in India are working to identify a young girl who was found living with a group of monkeys in an Indian forest.

According to doctors, the girl is between 10 and 12 years old. When taken to the hospital, she behaved like a primate, running using her arms and legs and eating food directly off of the floor with her mouth, they said.

The girl does not seem to understand spoken language, but she has used hand gestures to communicate with officials.

After treatment, she has begun walking normally and eating with her hands.

Woodcutters spotted the girl roaming with monkeys earlier this year, according to the Associated Press.

"They said the girl was naked and was very comfortable in the company of monkeys. When they tried to rescue the girl, they were chased away by the monkeys," police officer Dinesh Tripathi told the AP.

A police officer later rescued the girl and took her to a hospital.
