BELLAIRE, TX (KTRK) -- It was back to the basics for two principals in Bellaire.

At Condit Elementary Dan Greenberg spent quiet time reading inside a third grade class.

And over at Bellaire High School, Michael McDonugh learned about cells in biology.

"I've already been to algebra and history," McDonugh said.

But the lesson they're learning has nothing to do with a test. It's part of a national challenge called "Shadow a Student". And it's a program that helps educators get a better understanding of what it's like to be a student, and a teacher in their school.

"It's really important for the administration to be involved in our classrooms and know what's going on, and also know what may need improvement,"Emily Adell, a third grade teacher said.
