Pastor beaten, robbed on his way to Channelview church
Pastor Ted Broadway talks to ABC13 after being beaten and robbed in Channelview.

CHANNELVIEW, TX (KTRK) -- Robbing anyone in broad daylight is brazen but especially a pastor of more than a half century at Channelview Tabernacle.

Today a bandage covers Pastor Ted Broadway's head wound.

"Now lady, that was a fun event. I didn't know what to expect. He said, 'I want your money'," Broadway said.

The 84-year-old man says he thinks a 9 mm was used to strike him before the thief took his wallet in the church parking lot. The pastor was putting trash in the dumpster early before Sunday service.

"As the old saying goes, I guess I'm a tough old bird. It didn't hurt me. It stung me," Broadway said.

He adds if he could talk to the thief who robbed him he would have said this: "Why do you want to take my wallet? Why don't you let me give you some money and let me talk to you about the Lord Jesus Christ."

The thief drove off in a small pickup truck according to Broadway. Broadway says he wants to warn others in Channelview, especially the elderly. what happened to him. But also says in his entire life here he's never had anything like this happen.

Broadway also added he wished he would have done one more thing as the thief drove off: "I was trying to call 911 and what I should have done and from now on is take a picture. I tried to get the license number but I could have got him."
