Intruder killed in garage in bizarre confrontation with homeowner

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting in a north Harris County home.

It happened during a confrontation in the garage of a home in the 800 block of Sun Prairie Drive Thursday morning, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The homeowner, who was with his wife and one-year-old child, was about to get into his car when a strange man walked up his driveway. That man refused to leave and reportedly kept saying, 'This is my town, this is my neighborhood.'

The man seemed very out of it, police say, possibly on drugs. They add that he kicked in the window of a car.

The homeowner tried to shut his garage door, but the man reportedly ran inside, where the arguing continued.

Police say the homeowner shot the man several times. The mother rushed her baby inside the house.

Neighbor Russell Peterson said, "T think anybody would defend their family and they should have the right to do so. It's unfortunate that somebody was killed. But, it's unfortunate that the person decided to go and take it upon themselves to be an intruder, predator. They got the end result."

There were two other children inside the house when the shooting happened. They are all OK.

Police say no charges have been filed against the homeowner. A grand jury will review this case.

Police have not released the identity of the man who was killed. They did say that they got another 911 call about the same man roaming the streets and acting erratically right before the shooting.
