Dray Clark reporting from Suffolk County

BLUE POINT, NY -- A Suffolk County police officer foiled a robbery attempt at a Dunkin' Donuts on Montauk Highway Wednesday night, and police are investigating if the suspects are linked to a string of other robberies.

The detective was inside the donut shop when an armed suspect entered the store around 9 p.m. and announced the robbery. When he disrupted the robbery, the suspect pointed his gun at the detective and fired, but no one was hit.

That suspect was quickly taken into custody, as was an alleged accomplice found waiting behind the shopping center.

The officer was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Neither suspect has been identified.

A dance studio next to the Dunkin' Donuts was put on lockdown while police searched the area.

The suspects may be linked to a string of at least 11 similar armed robberies at gas stations and shops in the area since Dec. 22.
