HOUSTON (KTRK) -- There are new developments in the murder investigation of a woman, who police say was ambushed and killed by her husband.

Houston police have provided an updated photo of 42-year-old Aaron Leach-Veliz, who is now charged with murder in the shooting death of his wife, Armandina Leach.

Police say late Wednesday night, Leach-Veliz attacked his estranged wife, jumping out of the bushes at their southeast Houston home and ambushing her.

He reportedly shot her several times as she dropped off their teenage son.

Friends who stopped by the house yesterday talked to Eyewitness News.

"I was not prepared for this," said family friend Maria Lena Pana. "No one was, and especially the kids. She has many friends, real close friends, and we're going to be there for them."

The couple separated last week, after several years of marriage. Their two children, 16 and 11, are staying with relatives.

Leach-Veliz left on foot right after the shooting and police are still looking for him, hoping the updated photo will help people identify him.
