LAKE JACKSON, Texas (KTRK) -- Two 21-year-old men have been arrested in the murder of a La Marque man who went missing earlier this week.

The body of Roy Ornelas was discovered Tuesday in a remote area near the Brazos River in Lake Jackson, Brazoria County. He had been shot to death.

La Marque family believes the body found near the Brazos River is their son.

"Roy had a beautiful smile and Roy had a beautiful heart. I just still can't believe it," Rachel Ornelas, Roy's mother told Eyewitness News.

Just after midnight Friday, Lake Jackson police announced Joseph John Farek and Allen Ray Taylor II were charged with his murder. They were arrested Thursday night in Santa Fe.

"I'm the saddest, saddest, saddest in my life but I was so ecstatic last night," Ornelas said about the arrests.

Friday night, Farek and Taylor remained in jail. Ornelas' mother says the two were acquaintances of her son's. In fact, she says Taylor was supposed to shoot guns with him on Sunday. Roy never came home. Ornelas thinks she knows why her son was killed. As many as seven of his guns are missing.

Monday was Ornelas' birthday. He would have been 22.

"They need to suffer. I believe they need to be locked up for the rest of their lives."

A fundraiser to help with the cost of a funeral is scheduled for Saturday at 2614 1st Ave. South, Texas City from 2-6 p.m.

Friends have set up a GoFundMe to also help with funeral costs.
