More than $500k seized during traffic stop in Beaumont

BEAUMONT, TX (KTRK) -- More than half a million dollars in cold hard cash was found inside the panels of a car during a traffic stop in Beaumont.

Deputies pulled over a driver along I-10 Tuesday morning. They say the driver was nervous and refused to let them search his vehicle.

Deputies brought in a K9 officer that immediately gave the signal that something was hidden inside the 2011 Hyundai Sante Fe.

A search revealed $505,630 hidden in panels of the vehicle.

The driver said he had no idea where it came from and was released. The money was seized pending further investigation.
