EXCLUSIVE: Mother, baby and family dogs struck by vehicle in hit-and-run

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Brian Cook and his wife Brittany still walk their dogs every day along Dolores Street near Fountain View.

However, the visible bruises on Brittany's leg is a reminder of what happened just outside their front door September 1.

"It's hard to think about," said Brian Cook, his voice filled with emotion. "My dogs, my child, my wife. This is everybody, this is my whole family, and to think they were so close to being taken away."

That morning, Brittany was on her daily walk with their 10 month old son in a stroller, and two dogs on leashes. She was walking west on Dolores when a dark colored SUV hit the group, and didn't stop.

"I just happened to glance (up from my desk) at her and saw her," said Scot Stoner, who was working at an office on Dolores. "Unbelievably, this vehicle came from behind her and just plowed right into them, both of them. The baby went one way, the dogs went another and she did too."

Stoner and other witnesses ran to help. But the SUV quickly drove away. Fortunately, surveillance video from a nearby business captured images of the vehicle. It shows a dark, most likely black, SUV with tinted windows. Witnesses believe it was a late model Toyota.

The impact of the hit bent the stroller frame, but miraculously, because the baby was strapped in, he did not suffer major injuries. Neighbors helped round up the two dogs. Brittany suffered the most injuries, and is not yet comfortable talking about what happened.

"I think it's just unconscionable, you should have stopped," said Eny Emuchay, who also saw the accident. "It's ridiculous you think you can leave the scene of such a thing."

With his young family back together and recovering, Cook has turned his attention to finding the driver. He wants the public to carefully look at the surveillance video. It was taken around 8:40 in the morning on the 5900 block of Dolores on September 1. If anyone knows anything, Cook hopes you will call Houston Police.

"It's just so shocking that somebody would be willing to drive away after hitting dogs, a lady and a stroller," said Cook.
