HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A mother accused of fleeing to Mexico with her three children earlier this year has been booked into the Harris County Jail.
Doris Camerena, 24, has been charged with aggravated kidnapping.
In January, DPS officials issued an Amber Alert for 2-year-old Jason, 3-year-old Aaliyah and 5-year-old Isac Frausto. They were searching for the children's biological mother, Camerena, in connection with their disappearance.
The Amber Alert was canceled after authorities were advised that Camerena had made it into Mexico with the children days later.
According to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, the three children were taken to the hospital for a medical examination and will be placed in foster care until a relative can be located to take custody.
"Without the assistance of the Harris County DA's office, Department of Public Safety, U.S. Marshals, and the Department of State, this would not have had the positive resolution it did," said Tejal Patel with Family Protective Services. "The joint cooperation done across local, state, and federal lines shows the commitment to protecting the children of the state of Texas."
