Homeowner leaves smelly surprise for thieves, Steven Romo reports.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Montrose-area man was so fed up with thieves taking packages from his porch that he packed his German Shepherd's waste into a box and waited for someone to take the bait.

Morgan Barsi said he has already had two packages stolen in the past couple of years. One of the packages was a box of books.

"They didn't want the books, so they threw them all over the neighborhood," he said.

The second box was filled with electronics, which he said the thieves kept. That's when Barsi thought up the payback package plot. He packed up some of his dog's waste in a box and left it on the porch.

"I was like, this guy's going to have a little surprise when he steals this one," Barsi said.

He had to wait a full week before a man took the bait. The whole thing played out on Barsi's surveillance camera. He posted that video on social media, much to amusement of his friends and family.

"I kept walking by it and everything, so it finally kind of paid off," he said.

Morgan was surprised to see the car the man in the video was driving.

"To see the guy is in, obviously like a Mercedes convertible, that was a little disturbing," Barsi said.

Morgan hopes his brand of puppy-powered payback will discourage package thieves.

"Hopefully, he'll think twice about coming into the neighborhood to take stuff," he said. "Maybe more people will do this."

Barsi now gets his actual packages sent elsewhere. He also said he plans on showing this video to law enforcement.
