Man dead after shooting on Houston's south side

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police are investigating the death of a man on the 4900 block of Balkin Street on Houston's south side. The man apparently died of gunshot wounds just after 3:00am this morning.

Several family members came on the scene filled with emotion. Their sobs could be heard in the dark morning air as they wondered what could've killed their loved one. The man apparently did not live on the street.

Homicide investigators tell Eyewitness News that this was a apparent domestic disturbance. They say two men who they believe were fighting over a woman both pulled out guns and attempted to fire.

The suspected shooter hit the victim, killing him. It is unclear if the victim managed to fire a shot.

The suspected shooter is being interviewed by police officers right now. They have recovered both weapons. It's unknown at this point whether charges will be filed.
