LONGVIEW, TX -- Longview police say officers fatally shot a woman who walked into the police department lobby and threatened them with a weapon.

Police spokeswoman Kristie Brian told the Longview News-Journal that the woman walked into the building Thursday night, picked up an assistance phone and called for help.

When officers responded, Brian says the woman brandished a weapon and made threatening movements toward them.

Brian says the woman was shot, though it was not immediately clear how many times she was struck or how many officers fired.

The police department posted this update on their Facebook page:

It wasn't immediately clear what type of weapon she had.

Brian says the woman was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police are working to identify her.

The Texas Rangers are investigating.
