Local family recalls personal tour by Muhammad Ali, Elissa Rivas reports.

FORT BEND COUNTY (KTRK) -- The Murray family of Fresno in Fort Bend County continue to reflect, along with the rest of the world, on the life of Muhammad Ali. The Murray's talked with Eyewitness News about the day they took a family photo with him.

"We were at the right place at the right time to see the Champ," said mother Tina Murray.

Tina is from Louisville and as the family was visiting Ali's museum years ago, they heard a sudden announcement.

"He's here, you better come now, cause everyone's running that way, and we ran!" said dad Greg Murray.

They were simply happy to take a picture with him, but in a surprising addition, Ali gave them a personal tour.

We went to his movie theatre because that was his favorite place and we sat there and watched the films about the fights, from Sonny Liston and on up," said Greg who marveled at his sense of humor. "Once Ali found out we were from Houston, he was like - Boo! - because of George Foreman, but he was just playing."

They stayed the longest in the section of the museum about the Civil Rights movement, and son Daniel, a teenager at the time, says that is what will stay with him most about Ali.

"I just knew him for boxing and beating Joe Frazier, at the time, at my age, but a lot of the stuff that he did outside the ring added to him being the greatest," he said.
