Jogger finds woman's body along Galveston seawall

GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- Galveston police are asking for help from the public in identifying the body of a woman discovered Monday morning on Poretto Beach.

Investigators say a jogger discovered the body at about 6:50am while running on the beach near 10th Street and Seawall Blvd. They say the woman appears to be of Asian descent, 35-50 years old, with short, black hair.

Police are working to determine if there are any signs of foul play. They cannot yet determine if she washed up onto the beach, was dumped there or even died there.

"We really want to get her identified. We know somebody is missing her. It may be the greater Houston area, may be north Texas but somebody is missing this female and we're asking those that are watching to help us identify her," said Galveston Police Sgt. Joshua Schirard.

Police say the woman was only partially clothed. Her pants were discovered near her body. It's not clear if she might have been sexually assaulted. That will be determined during an autopsy.

The victim was wearing two rings, according to investigators. One appears to be a wedding ring. It was on her left ring finger and is a solitary diamond on a gold band. The other is a plain gold band she wore on her right hand.

If you have any information which could help authorities identify the woman, you can contact Galveston Police.
