Apartment fire injures two people
Two people were taken to the hospital after someone intentionally set a fire at an apartment complex

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A call for help ended with a fire rescue in west Houston early this morning.

Police officers responded to an apartment at 1500 Sandy Springs Road around 2:00am for an assault call. When they arrived to the scene, they saw the apartment on fire.

Officers said they quickly tried to get everyone out of the building while waiting for firefightgers to arrive.

"Our engine companies were able to rescue two people out of the apartment," said District Chief Roger Westhoff with HFD. "They had smoke inhalation and minor burns and were both transported to the hospital."

Investigators said they've been out to the same location before for several calls involving their crisis intervention team. Firefighters said the blaze was intentionally set, explaining there were numerous spots in the apartment where the fire began.

"Right now, we're waiting on arson investigators to give a definitive cause," Westhoff said.

Nobody else was injured. We do not know the ages of the men rescued from the burning apartment.
