HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A local charity honored a man shot last month while trying to protect two Indian men who were targeted in a suspected hate crime.
India House presented Ian Grillot with a $100,000 check Saturday night.
Grillot was shot while trying to stop a gunman who police say killed one man and injured another.
India House volunteers brought Grillot and his parents to Houston to recognize his heroic efforts.
"We thought in all this negativity, if we celebrate his heroism, his true American spirit, it will send a positive message to the community," said India House gala chair Jiten Agarwal.
