HOUSTON (KTRK) -- One person has been shot by an HPD police officer in northeast Houston.

According to Houston police, an officer shot the suspect at North Loop East and Wayside.

The suspect was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center.

He does not have life-threatening injuries, police said.

It started near Interstate 10 and Mercury after a woman flagged down an off-duty police officer, police said. She told them she had just been robbed.

The officer began pursuing the suspect. He was not in uniform, but had his weapon with him, police said.

At some point, there was a confrontation. The officer fired more than once, hitting the suspect and the suspect's truck.

It ended near 610 and Wayside when the suspect got out of his truck.

No names of those involved have been released.
