HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Authorities are investigating the death of a man that occurred in police custody, Houston police said.

According to police, officers responded to a CVS in the 4400 block of West Fuqua Street for a welfare check on Saturday night.

At the scene, police found 42-year-old Roderick Ronall Taylor being treated by paramedics.

After being released, he became incoherent, uncooperative and requested police, a press release stated.

Police said Taylor started to fight with an officer and attempted to grab the officer's duty belt. A second officer arrived and the suspect continued to fight with both of the officers, police stated.

During the confrontation, the first arriving officer deployed his stun gun.

According to police, Taylor became unresponsive and was taken to the hospital. He was pronounced dead on Tuesday, just three days after the initial incident.

One of the officers was treated for a cut to his eye, police said.

The death is being investigated by HPD's Homicide and Internal Affairs Division.
