The shooting happened at a Valero in SE Houston Friday night.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- One man is in the hospital and another in jail following an officer-involved shooting last night in southeast Houston.

Houston police say it all started out as a robbery at a Valero station off Lawndale near Griggs. Investigators say an off-duty officer was working there as an extra job doing security.

After 9pm, he spotted the two suspects who put on ski masks. One went inside the gas station. The other stood as a look-out.

Officers say the suspect inside attempting to rob the place at gunpoint. That's when the Officer K. Huey jumped into action.

"It's at that point the officer, in fear of safety and in fear of his safety and in fear of his safety inside the store, he discharges his duty weapon," said Jodi Silva with HPD. "The suspect is struck."

The suspect that was shot suffered serious injuries and is in the hospital. The other is in custody.

As with all shootings, HPD and the district attorney's office will investigate.
