HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Houston Police Department cruiser was hit early this morning during a chase through northeast Houston.

Residents who live near Frazier River at River Trail called police around 2am and claimed three men were stripping a pickup truck.

When police arrived, they say three suspects jumped into another pickup and drove off with officers giving chase toward Smokey Jasper Park where the suspect vehicle crashed into a gate and went into a field.

Police pursued the truck and the suspect vehicle rammed the patrol car. The trio of suspects got out of the truck and ran off in the park.

Another officer responding to the scene drove off the road and into a ditch.

HPD called in a helicopter and K9 unit and found one man who is now in custody. The other two suspects remain on the run.

No officers were injured.

Police say the truck used in the chase was stolen and the truck being stripped was also stolen.
