HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston Police responded to a call about a home invasion in southeast Houston. The situation then turned into a shootout.
It happened just before 10:00pm last night in the 8400 block of Winkler. Police say a group of men were banging on apartment door and shooting inside. They even wounded a resident in the leg.
When police arrived, they spotted three suspects leaving in a Nissan Sentra and followed them.
HPD Spokesperson, Victor Senties, says two of those suspects escaped, but one exchanged gunfire with an officer as he got out of his patrol car.
"The suspect then turned and fired several shots at the officer, and, obviously fearing for his life, the officer returned fire," said Senties.
Neither was hit, and the suspect took off on Winkler, where the pair exchanged gunfire again. When additional officers arrived, they were able to take the man into custody.
Senties says the suspect in custody had two pistols and will face multiple charges.
