ARLINGTON, TX -- Authorities say a high school football player from Arlington has been shot to death in front of a car wash in the nearby town of Kennedale.

Kennedale Police Chief Tommy Williams told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that Carl Wilson, a football player at Arlington Martin High School, was shot after several people met in an apartment complex parking lot near the car wash Monday afternoon.

Witnesses told detectives that the shooting stemmed from an altercation at the school during the lunch hour earlier in the day.

Williams says detectives have not determined what the altercation was over.

Wilson has a toddler son.

Extra patrol officers were at the school on Tuesday morning as a precaution. And a school district spokeswoman says counselors were available to talk to students.
