Houston mayor to bring help to communities in disrepair
Mayor Sylvester Turner set to announce the first neighborhoods on the Complete Communities Initiative list

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Throughout Houston there are neighborhoods that are in desperate need of some pretty basic services, like decent streets and sidewalks.

Today, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner plans to name the first areas of our city designated for what's called the Complete Communities Initiative.

The idea is to upgrade areas of town that have fallen into disrepair.

Often these areas have no sidewalks, no maintained parks and streets that are in bad shape.

But the initiative goes even further, hoping to improve schools, bring better jobs and provide access to affordable homes.

The problem comes down to funding. These types of improvements are not cheap.

Today we should learn more about how the city will pay for this and the first areas of town that will see the repairs.
