Homeowner with physical disabilities needs help cleaning home

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A man with physical disabilities living in an unsafe home in the Heights needs help moving out.

"I'm a good person," James Templain said. "I've tried to live a good life. I've just fell on hard times medically, and am unable to take care of this hoarding."

Sunlight streams through holes in the roof. Buckets of rainwater in the living room breed mosquitoes.

After years of receiving city code violations, Templain found a buyer who will pay more than $200,000 for the property. However, he has to move out first so the house can be demolished.

Templain said he has valuable memories buried beneath decades of trash.

"It has been hell on earth, it really has," Templain said.

Templain said he needs help finding his belongings and loading them into a storage unit. If he does not get the help, he said the city could take control of the property.

Eyewitness News is waiting on a response from the city of Houston regarding the status of Templain's property.

"I just hope that there's enough good people out here that somebody will smile and give me a hand," Templain said.
