Heater possibly to blame for house fire

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A fire destroyed a home in southwest Houston early this morning.

The man who lives at the house told Eyewitness News he woke up to flames and ran out to safety. He then called for help.

Firefighters got the call around 2:15am. First responders said when they arrived to the home on Pella Drive near Hendon Lane, they saw flames going through the roof.

Investigators haven't determined an official cause for the fire. However, they are taking a close look at the gas furnace. The man who escaped the fire suspects the heater started the blaze.

The home is a complete loss.
