A Harris County Sheriff's deputy opened fire on a man who reportedly kicked in the door of the deputy's apartment in northwest Harris County.

A HCSO spokesperson says the deputy was home when he heard someone kicking a door shortly before noon. He checked the peephole but didn't see anything at first. A few minutes later, he heard more kicking and this time a man kicked in his door. The deputy fired one shot at the suspect. They believe the burglar was hit, but he got away.

The deputy's name has not been released. He was not hurt. He's been with the Harris County Sheriff's Office for less than two years. He will be put on administrative leave and undergo a psych and medical evaluation.
