Harris County leads statewide trend in domestic violence murders
Sobering statistics put Harris County at the top of a statewide trend for domestic violence murders just as Houston police are set to honor victims.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A new report from the Texas Council on Family Violence shows more women are being killed in domestic violence murders, including 132 women killed in Texas last year.

Harris County had the highest number of deaths in the state with 23 domestic violence murders.

The report says 77 percent of these women were killed at home and 67 percent were killed in a gun incident. In most cases, they were shot by their male partner.

That same report released today also puts a face on those murders. It pays tribute to the victims by sharing their stories in hopes of saving another woman's life.
