A fire damaged 13 apartments in a building in northwest Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A fire ripped through an apartment building in northwest Houston Friday night forcing residents to run into the streets.

The fire started around 11:30pm at the El Rancho Verde Apartments in the 6000 block of West Sun Forest Drive.

Crews pulled a second alarm due to intense flames.

All 13 units in the building were damaged. Three units were heavily damaged.

It's still not clear how the fire started.

No one was hurt and the Red Cross is assisting all of the displaced families.
